About

The artists explored in this project—Zaria Forman, Sara Black and Amber Ginsburg, Michelle Lougee, and Tan Zi Xi—demonstrate that environmental art is not merely a form of aesthetic expression but a compelling tool for activism. Each artist engages with ecological issues through unique modalities: Forman’s hyperreal pastel landscapes evoke emotional connections to melting polar regions; Black and Ginsburg’s material reuse invites reflection on decay and renewal; Lougee’s crocheted marine forms critique our dependence on plastic; and Tan Zi Xi’s immersive installations confront viewers with the overwhelming reality of ocean pollution. Their work transcends conventional advocacy by reaching people through their senses, emotions, and physical experiences—deepening awareness in ways that facts and figures alone often cannot.
